About me
Shane Wiskus – Olympian, NCAA Champion, and Performance Coach
Gymnastics has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Spring Park, Minnesota, I fell in love with the sport at a young age and dedicated myself to becoming the best gymnast I could be. That passion led me on an incredible journey, from my early days training at North Shore and Mini-Hops Gymnastics to competing for the University of Minnesota, and fulfilling my dream of becoming an Olympian.
Early Years and Junior Career
As a kid, I spent countless hours in the gym, pushing myself to improve every single day. My hard work paid off when I earned a spot on the U.S. Junior National Team, allowing me to compete against some of the best gymnasts in the country and the world. Those years shaped me not only as an athlete but also as a competitor, teaching me the discipline and resilience I would need throughout my career.
Collegiate Career at the University of Minnesota
Choosing to compete for the University of Minnesota was one of the best decisions of my life. Representing the Golden Gophers, I won three NCAA individual titles and was honored as the 2021 Nissen Emery Award winner, an achievement that recognized my contributions to the sport both inside and outside the gym. Competing at the NCAA level pushed me to refine my skills, and my time at Minnesota will always hold a special place in my heart.
International and Olympic Journey
After college, I took the next step in my career, competing on the international stage for Team USA. I represented my country at World Championships and, ultimately, fulfilled a lifelong dream by competing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Standing on that Olympic stage was an unforgettable moment, one that symbolized years of sacrifice, dedication, and perseverance. In 2024, I was named an alternate for the Paris Olympics, continuing my commitment to the highest level of the sport.
Beyond Competition
Gymnastics has shaped me in ways I never could have imagined, and now, I’m passionate about giving back to the sport. Whether it’s through coaching, public speaking, or performance coaching, I want to inspire the next generation of athletes to chase their dreams fearlessly. I also continue to explore new ways to push myself outside the gym, growing both personally and professionally.
No matter where life takes me, I’ll always be grateful for the journey that gymnastics has given me. It’s been a ride full of highs, lows, and everything in between—but I wouldn’t change a thing.
